At the occasion, there will also be the WorldStar Ceremony.
Chicago (US), April 2013 From May 06 to 10, WPO (World Packaging Organization) Board and members will be in Sydney, Australia, to accomplish its first meeting of the year. The week of work is organized by AIP (Australian Institute of Packaging), a very active WPO member, and will be part of the program of Auspack Plus 2013, the major packaging show in the region.
One of the important points of the meetings will be the launch of the new WPO website (www.worldpackaging.org), produced by Kellen Company. According to Thomas Schneider, President of the Organization, “the new website is modern and easy to navigate. The purpose is to offer our members and the world packaging community rich content and useful information that can be used as a guideline for daily activities and as an aid in developing relationships with other packaging professionals around the world. We intend, for our new website, to be News You Can Use.” The website also includes a complete list of trade shows and packaging publications around the world, as well as books and literature related to the industry.
WPO will also discuss in Sydney the parameters for the research that will be conducted in order to map the statistics of world packaging industry. Other major subjects will include new activities related to educational programs and marketing & communications. Representatives from Australia, Brazil, China, Korea, Nigeria, Norway, South Africa and Turkey are confirmed to the Board Meeting in Australia.
Best packages in the world
Besides participating in all the committees and Board meeting, the President of WPO, Thomas Schneider, will also be one of the speakers in the AIP Technical Forum, on May 9. At night, there will be the 2013 WorldStar Award ceremony; in this edition 159 winners will receive trophies. The 2013 edition had a total of 316 entries from 33 different countries. Beverages had 78 entries and 41 took a WorldStar; Electronics 18 with 11 winners; Food 42 winners from 81 entries; Health & Beauty 15 winners from 33 entries; Pharmaceutical & Medical received 24 entries and 11 took a WorldStar; and Other category had 35 winners from 69 entries.
The three winners of the President’s Award are TalkPack (Wipak – Germany), Mosspack (BossPack - South Korea) and Folding returnable pallet for Drums (Sankyu – Japan). The winners of Sustainability category are Infini Bottle (Nampak – UK), Loop pallet (IPG – Sweden) and Mount Franklin Easy Crush (Coca-Cola – Australia). For the first time WPO will deliver the Marketing Award which winners are Package for sunflower seeds (Ukrplastic – Ukraine), Ice Pack (DS Smith – Poland) and J&B Twister (MW Creative – UK). According to WPO President, Thomas Schneider, “Once again the WorldStar Ceremony brings together packaging leaders from all over the world for a singular purpose: to receive recognition from the most important packaging competition globally and confirm their packaging projects are making a difference for a better world. One of WPO´s missions is to highlight the creativity that is alive and quite well within the packaging community.”
The entries for the next WorldStar Award are being accepted now and through 27 September, 2013. The next judging process will take place in November 2013 in Barcelona.
